Beginners’ Spoon Carving with Duncan Goulder

Learn axe & knife carving techniques to make beautiful wooden spoons from green wood. Try out different brands & patterns of carving tools & learn how to maintain them.




Practical Coppicing with Sam Ansell

Learn the basics of coppicing in a woodland setting. Covering all aspects including; access, product selection, felling, dressing out, bundling, adding value.






Improvers’ Spoon Carving with Duncan Goulder

For those who have already carved a spoon or two, this is a day to practise, extend and perfect your spoon carving techniques with expert guidance.






Hazel Hurdles with Sam Ansell

Saturday/Sunday 24th/25th March 2018

£120 + £35 for materials

Traditional hurdle making is a fascinating skill and one that deserves to be preserved by future generations. Sam can show you how to coax and twist the hazel into a beautiful and functional panel.




Charcoal Production with Sam Ansell

Saturday/Sunday 7th/8th April 2018

£120 (no cost for materials)

Learn the artistry and intricacies of charcoal burning. You will learn to use ring kilns and to make charcoal on a back yard scale in barrels. Course covers all aspects from timber choice and preparation to bagging and selling your charcoal. Also make biochar as a biproduct and improve your garden soil!





Cleft Gate Hurdles with Duncan Goulder

Saturday/Sunday 14th/15th April 2018

£120 + £5 cost for materials

On this course you will learn how to cleave wood using wedges and froes, how to shape wood using an axe and draw knife and bracing techniques to make a beautiful and functional gate hurdle.
